Community Cohesion
Through our work, we aim to create a better understanding between people of different backgrounds; between different cultural groups but also between young people and the adult population.
One of the very first projects taken on board by FYA, was to bring together young people from different backgrounds and work together to improve the state of the Warren play area in Whitfield Street, London W1, and improve the relationship between young people hanging out in the Warren, with local residents who live opposite. Read more about how we started.
As well as continuing work aimed at improving cohesion around the Warren play area, we have also carried out work around Muslim identity & cohesion and territorial conflict (through the Camden Unity Cup). During 2009/10, we will also start a project aimed at understanding the experiences and viewpoints of young people from White Working Class backgrounds.
Between 2000 and 2006, Fitzrovia Youth in Action organised a series of annual street planting projects where young people installed planters outside the homes of residents living around the Warren play area and football pitch
