On Road Magazine

What is the project?

On Road magazine was launched in the summer of 2008. Its a quarterly magazine available in print for youths and residents in Camden and Westminster, but is also available online to view digitally by those who do not reside in Camden.

Youths from the ages of 13-21 write, design, edit all the articles themselves with the help of our media participation officer.

The magazine is available throughout schools, youth clubs, community stores and stores frequented by youths.

What is the need for the project?

The magazine looks to be the voice for youths in Camden. It acts as a platform for youths to make themselves heard about issues which concern them. This is the first magazine of its kind in the borough of Camden and is long overdue according to the young people in Camden. Camden is one of the most diverse boroughs in the country, and our youths are faced a multitude of obstacles whilst growing up. The magazine looks to represent all races, religions, and creeds when making the magazine

What are the benefits of the project?

  • The youth participants gain an insight into the media industry. An opportunity not many youths can say they have had whilst growing up.
  • The fact that the magazine works to voice their opinions means that youths join the project enthusiastic about what they can do.
  • Youth participants can gain AQA qualifications in Writing, designing, photography, media, and much more
  • Youth participants have the advantage of having a media professional come in and work with them, giving them vital advice and help.
  • Youth participants gain skills in writing, designing, and photography

Who is the project open to?

The project is open to anyone between the ages of 13 and 21.
