Camden Unity Cup
What is the Project?
The Camden unity cup is the borough’s largest football tournament, run by young people for young people, it aims to address some of the gang rivalries, racial tensions and territorial conflicts that have plagued the area in the past.
The first unity cup tournament began in 1998 and it has since grown into the largest youth football tournament in Camden with over 700 young people taking part each year and around 100 young people involved in the delivery of 5 match days plus a launch and finals day young people who organise the match days receive training in event management and dealing with conflict issues and become stewards for each match day.
What is the need for the project?
The Camden unity cup seeks to ease race and gang tensions in the borough, there are a lot of territorial issues which young people need to overcome, The unity cup can bring young people together by playing football it keeps young people out of trouble. The Camden unity cup uses football to engage young people and support them in developing which benefit themselves and the community and improve relationships between people from different ethnic and age groups throughout the London Borough of Camden
What are the benefits of the project?
The benefits of the Camden unity cup programme is that we encourage young volunteers to help out with the delivery of the unity cup and each year we provide training opportunities for 15 young people to become qualified FA level one coaches
Who is the project open to?
The Camden unity cup programme is open from the ages of 8 to 18 including sessions for girls most of our teams play in competitive leagues and tournaments
