The Warren Cup 2021
August 18, 2021 @ 11:00 am - 5:30 pm
FreeThis year ten inspiring young people organised a brilliant Warren Cup 2021, which took place on Wednesday 18th August. It was a wonderful event with a range of activities from foosball to arts and crafts and showcasing films. We had a tasty BBQ for young people and local residents! Yes, indeed the smoothie cycle came out so there were some sumptuous smoothies. Everyone from local residents to tournament players, volunteers and other young people were enjoying the fun activities.
This year has been rather difficult due to the pandemic, and sports has great mental health benefits as physical activity impacts stress and anxiety levels. Young people have had a tough time over the course of the year due to isolation and lockdown so this event in particular has bought many different teams together to play in a friendly tournament to encourage sportsmanship, togetherness and hope. Over 80 players attended and it was great to see such enthusiasm on the pitch!
The effort that went into organising the event from the steering group members was impressive, they managed activities, presented films, put in fixtures and took part in the under 18 division. These young people who organised the event wanted to encourage their peers to maintain a healthy lifestyle, whether playing sport or raising awareness of health issues impacting young people and our community. They ran amazing peer education workshops in our cinema tent with screenings of Peer Education films and discussions after. It was fantastic to see how engaged everyone was.
