Camden Youth Action Showcase 2019
On 24th October there was a celebration of the amazing volunteering and social action young people across the borough have been undertaking at the Annual Camden Youth Action Showcase!
200 people attended the event; representatives from Camden Council, organisations from across the borough working with young people, pan-london or national organisations and bodies working in youth, health or charity sectors, 40 stewards and youth volunteers to serve the guests and present, and children and some of the young people who created the 19 films screened!
19 young people took to the stage – The event was hosted by three of the Youth Event organisers and we had performances from Liana Adal, Lilliana Appleby, Abigail Phillips-Douglas and one of the hosts Mariam Momen Torres. They were joined by speakers from other FYA programmes such as Youth Ambassadors and Camden Champions, who were also promoting their work from stalls too. Peer Education ran a taster of the project as part of their presentation, and from the feedback has been a highlight for attendees! One of the guests who had been part of making a peer education film commented ‘Feeling proud of the young people and also the film we all made together in partnerships with FYA.’
Our Peer Mentoring programme also had speakers from Camden Youth Offending Service Peer Advocates and a young mentor from Achland Burghley to share their experiences. Finally, we were also able to showcase the work of youth action happening outside of FYA, particularly featuring Take Back the Power from the Winchester Project.
We would like to thank all the organisations and individuals attended, all the organisations who have taken part in various FYA projects this year (some who were not able to join us on the day) and Sliced Events and the London Irish Centre for their support of the Youth Event Team. We would also like to thank the funders of the event Lottery Community Fund, Camden Commissioning Group and LAB Tech.
