Fitzrovia Summer Festival 2019!
On Saturday 29th June, the Warren Pitch and Play Area was the set for a sunshine filled movie themed extravaganza!
Over 400 people from the community and across Camden came together to celebrate the start of Summer and many came in costume! Guests took a journey through the Wild Wild West testing skills on our Rodeo Bull, sung their hearts out in the movie themed kareoke booth, jumped on the Disney bouncy castle, had cinema style popcorn and hot dogs, competed to stick the tail on Shrek’s Donkey, became their favourite characters with our face painter or face-in-hole Frozen, Marvel, Toy Story and other cutouts and chilled out on the deck chairs watching the 55 young people who took to the stage!
The event was organised by a group of young people who have been trained as Youth Event Managers, creating the promotional material and decided the components of the event. They then lead a team of 42 young people acting as stewards.
The audience a variety of performances, with the stage being hosted by Warren and Malika. Bengali Workers Association Mix It dance group opened the show including a brilliant Men in Black and Trolls ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling’ sets, including some fantastic audience participation. They were then joined on stage by artists Sain, Jadeen Barton, Anisah Rahman, Liana Adal, IAMONPOINT, dancers from The Place, BBetter Manifest Nation Juniors, recorder by Lena Afzali and a short performance from Capoeira Academy UK. Even the hosts showcased their talent with spoken word from Malika and Warren playing keyboard and some of the management team also organised a small section of entertainment including bhangra and Baby Shark and held one of the most competitive musical statues games EVER.
