Camden Digital Youth Action Showcase

October 28, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Free
On the 28th of October, we were able to host our Annual Camden Youth Action Showcase 2020 despite COVID-19 but this year we went DIGITAL! It was a little different logistically, but still remained youth led and only young people featured on screen and stage! The Digital Showcase was to celebrate our young people’s work and talents and how many young people are making a positive impact in their community, from small acts of kindness to larger action like this event!
We had a group of nine amazing Youth Event Managers, who worked hard to curate the event, bringing their ideas to life and making all the decisions related to the event from the promotional material, types of speakers and sessions to writing the host cards. The team were incredibly committed, even having a Saturday meeting to ensure the event was a success. None of them, and even us, had organised an online event quite like this and they took on numerous responsibilities and roles.
93 guests attended the live event, 15 young people featured in person as hosts, stewards and performers and a further 13 young people led sessions online including Debating, Wellbeing and Being a Young Entrepreneur. We were also joined by some family members of speakers and performers and other young people watching in person at our Warren Centre. Due to COVID-19 guidance at the time of the event, we were able to have up to 15 people in the room.
This year we had a combination of
  • inspiring speakers including the recent Vice Chair of Youth Ambassadors Belicia Ashford
  • interviews with young people from the FYA Peer education and Peer mentoring projects
  • Film screenings of youth media created by young people from FYA, Coram, UCL Academy, La Sainte Union School and WAC Arts
  • A Youth Action Panel featuring Anisah Rahman, a young tech entrepeneur and youth action volunteer for the Warren Centre Management team and activist sisters Summer and Wynter, who not only campaigned regarding the digital divide at their school during lockdown, but continue to campaign on issues that impact them and their peers.
  • Guests were also wowed by musical performances from two of our very own event managers Nana and Emilia, Ky Lewis, Emma Ilunga and Ela Kalicka and captivated by poetry by Kacey Philpot from Lauderdale House.
We have great feedback from our young people who supported this event as stewards and also from the audience attending the event live.
We would like to thank all organisations and individuals who attended, all organisations who have taken part in various FYA’s projects this year online and face to face, all our young people who have taken part online or face to face, and finally our funders. We would also like to mention a special thank you to Old Diorama for hosting us on the day of the event.  We have learnt a lot from this first digital event, so watch this space!
You can see a film about the process of making the event happen and highlights from the event below!

It was fantastic to witness the talent of the young people involved in the showcase- an opportunity I may not have had without the existence of the FYA ( attendee)

Amazing showcase guys. Leaving feeling really hopeful. This really has showcased the immense talent, drive, initiative and community spirit of young people you work with. A truly young people led event. I loved it! (attendee)

I got to see how young people have experienced different things which has helped me keep in touch with the needs of young people ( attendee
