Youth Social Action Officer (Internship)

This post in funded and supported by the Jack Petchey Foundation internship programme, which is designed to help young people start their career in the youth sector while also enabling the host charity to create more opportunities and reach more young people. Apart of this Jack Petchey internship programme the post holder will be required to take part fully in the programme, which includes support from external mentors, attending events and engaging in the review sessions. The Youth Social Action (Internship) role is a twelve-month paid Internship starting in March 2024, supported by the Jack Petchey Foundation. The successful candidate must be available to take up the post by Monday 25 March 2024. As part of this role, the successful candidate will be part of the Jack Petchey Internship Programme with 30 other interns from different youth organisations in London and Essex. This development programme will involve attending a residential launch conference, four professional development workshops through the year and a celebration event at the end of the programme. The successful candidate will receive an extra training bursary of £1,000 for approved training and will be matched with a mentor from another organisation to help support their professional development. The Jack Petchey Internship Programme training days and events will take place in person in London and the successful candidate will be expected to take full part in this programme alongside their role at Fitzrovia Youth in Action. 

The post holder will support in delivering and developing a youth leadership programme, through which young people develop their leadership skills and their representation through becoming actively involved in their community and participating in self-directed community action.

The successful candidate will support different cohorts of young people to take the lead in planning and delivering their own campaigns addressing issues of concern. Young people will be supported to facilitate youth-led community consultations, peer to peer planning activities and a range of campaigns aimed at improving understanding and awareness of issues they have identified and solutions they are calling for. The role will also include supporting young people to engage with decision makers and participate in local decision-making structures.

The post holder may also support drop-in sessions and other activities aimed at engaging young people and referring them onto the youth-led social action programmes.

This is an exciting opportunity for FYA as we are elated to have an internship role for a young person, as a stepping stone for their career in the youth sector. This role also offers an opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of other young people.

Salary: £23,933 per annum
Working Hours: Full time (35 hrs per week) 
Location: Camden, London
Contract: 1 year contract
