FITZROVIA COMMUNITY STREET PARTY

was a great success!

Thank you to all our local neighbours and guests who joined us on 4th September! We have calculated that over 500 people took part throughout the day! It was great to reconnect members of the local and surrounding community together again after not being able to host the Street Party since 2019.

There was a packed event with lots of activities, incredible performances and fantastic food from Agra! Activities such as the inflatables like bungee run and surf simulator were incredibly popular, along with face painting, henna and temporary tattoos! We were so glad to involve local restaurant Agra and had lots of feedback regarding how delicious the food was. Another popular element was the ice cream van, which was a real hit providing 400 guests with a free ice cream! We also wanted to support local public health initiative including the vaccine bus but also had other local partners involved too. You can see our film below!

We had an incredible stage line up with young people impressing our audiences including Remix Dance, SIV Arts, Ky Lewis, Emma Ilunga, Kya. Gloria, Lakenya, Abigail Phillips Douglas, Jadeen Barton, Inshi and Roundhouse Resident Artist Teshay!

Much of the feedback related to how great it was to bring people back together and an opportunity to socialise and meet new people.

We also had evaluation forms which guests completed before collecting their meal. 98% of guests reported that the event was good or excellent. 40% of guests overall reported an increase in community belonging. 71% of guests reported high community belonging scores between 8 and 10 out of 10 after the event in comparison to only 50% before the event.

A steering group of 14 young people organised the event and hosted on the day. The team formed in July and planned together each week – they decided the activities, they prepared the site plan and worked on the risk assessment. They all worked incredibly hard and adapted consistently to challenges during the day, from performers running late and needing to adapt their script seamlessly without audiences being aware, to the placement of some activities. Many acted as stewards delivering customer service throughout the event, along with other young people from FYA who came to support the event. The group will all receive AQA certificates in Event Management, Customer Service, Public Speaking and leadership and have planned a trip to Thorpe Park together to celebrate their hard work!
