Fitzrovia Youth in Action (FYA) is Camden’s leading youth action charity. Operating for more than 25 years, we support young people in and around Camden’s neighbouring communities to lead community action and create positive change for themselves, their peers and their community.
We are looking for a new Chair to lead the charity through an exciting period of development. The new Chair will provide inclusive leadership and direction to our Board of Trustees, ensuring that our Trustees fulfil their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the charity. The role would also involve working closely with FYA’s CEO and leadership team to achieve the charity’s strategic aims and continue building the relationship between the Board and FYA staff.

The ideal candidate will have prior Board experience or experience in a leadership role or delivering effective governance at a senior level. They should have strong interpersonal skills and an ability to bring people together and lead with sensitivity and diplomacy. We have an active, supportive Board and it is important that our new Chair fosters this collaborative culture as we continue to grow.
In particular, we are interested in hearing from people either living or working in the London Borough of Camden, although this is not an essential requirement.
The Board meets every eight weeks in person and we ask all Trustees to join one subcommittee which meets between Board meetings. All meetings taking place in the evening, lasting between 1.5 and 2 hours with a mix of online and face-to-face at our Warren Street locations. In addition, our Chair would act as ambassador for the charity at some of our community events, held in Fitzrovia throughout the year.
Please note that this is a volunteer role and there is therefore no remuneration. FYA is committed to inclusion and diversity in our workplace and communities. Everyone is welcome at all parts of the organisation – we know this is essential to achieving our mission.
More about FYA
Last year, FYA supported over 500 young people in organising youth social action programmes which engaged over 2500 other young people and residents. Our young volunteers organised and delivered awareness campaigns on mental health and community safety, ran peer support groups and peer mentoring programmes to support mental health, and organised a range of community events to bring people together.
FYA also manages and runs a local community pitch as well as The Warren Centre, a youth led space in the heart of our community. This is an exciting time for the charity. We recently defined a new strategic plan, against which we are now developing an operational business plan. We’ve also launched some exciting strategic priorities which include creating more innovative programmes, further diversifying our service user base, growing new income streams and developing our excellent staff team.
