Our music project is an opportunity for young people to share their views on the issues that affect them, gain new skills, and showcase their talent.

Young people choose an issue they would like to focus on (for example, drugs and alcohol) and participate in awareness-raising training on the issue. They explore their views on the issue, identify the aspect they want to focus on, and decide the message they want to convey. Participants receive support from youth participation workers to write the lyrics and develop the score for their track. They receive training from specialist music tutors and record their track in a real music studio.

Once participants have crafted a track that gets their message across to other young people, they progress to designing their own awareness-raising workshops. Incorporating their track into their workshops, the young people deliver their workshops to their peers at youth clubs and schools across Camden. For example, a group focussing on drugs and alcohol would deliver workshops on the consequences of drugs and alcohol abuse.

As well as giving young people a voice on the issues they care about, our music project gives them the opportunity to gain skills in songwriting, singing, rap, music recording, workshop design and delivery, and team work. Participants also have the opportunity take part in employability workshops and work experience placements.

Check out some of our previous recordings, lots more coming soon!
