Big Give 2018 Christmas Challenge

FYA took part in the Big Give’s Christmas Challenge 2018 raising crucial funds to support our Youth Action in The Community Project.

The Big Give Christmas Challenge is UK’s largest match funding campaign where all donations made via theBigGive.org.uk were DOUBLED.

As part of our campaign we took part in some team challenges and activities including staff, young people, local businesses and the general local community. Our staff walked a combined 40km’s walking to work one cold November morning with some walking from as far as Edmonton, Leytonstone and High Barnet.

Our 12 hour Footballathon raised over £600 (£1200 once doubled) with young people and local residents getting involved with local businesses including Santander, Arup, Lucky Voice, UCL and the International Students House to play out a 12 hour football marathon which ended with a final score line of 107-101 to the Blue team.

We would like to say a massive thank you to GMS Estates for providing us with the original pledge of £6500 to enable us to participate in the campaign and to The Childhood Trust who matched our donations as well as everyone that supported our Christmas Challenge campaign. Thanks to you, we raised a whopping £21,553 to support our Youth Action in The Community Programme.

With these crucial funds raised young people will have the opportunity to organise a series of intergenerational events throughout the year to increase community cohesion and improve young people’s skills and experience. At the end of December young people were involved in organising our ever popular Christmas Community Dinner and will follow this up in 2019 with a Community Street Planting Day (May), the Fitzrovia Summer Festival (June) and the Fitzrovia Street Party (August).
