The Camden Youth Action showcase 2015
Over 300 people packed the Camden Centre to celebrate a wide range of community projects, which have been organised by young people over the last year in partnership with a large number of community organisations in Camden.
The Camden Youth Action! showcase programme consisted of 13 short films, food and entertainment from talented young people. Like the other projects being showcased, the Camden Youth Action! event itself was organised and hosted by a steering group of young people, who spent three months planning how this event could be used to highlight the positive impact young people are making within their communities.
Projects on show ranged from peer education programmes tackling issues such as drugs and mental health, to media projects and large scale community events such as the Camden Unity Cup and Fitzrovia Street Party – all planned and delivered by young people.
The showcase was attended by young people and representatives from a large number of youth agencies across Camden. Projects showcased were organised in partnership with South Camden Youth Access Point, WISDM, One Housing Group, Castlehaven Community Association, Calthorpe Project, Coram’s Fields, Dragon Hall, Bengali Workers’ Association, Inspire!, Westminster Kingsway College, Kings Cross Brunswick and Neighbourhood Association, London Youth and Camden Challenge.
Alice Weavers, Youth Participation Officer at FYA, responsible for supporting young people in organising community events said; “It was an amazing night and it was great to see young people from so many different projects and organisations in Camden come together to celebrate and promote youth action. The films and projects behind them really show the difference young people in Camden are making in their communities. We look forward to working with our partners over the next year to involve many more young people in youth action in Camden.”

Just a Little Legal High; music video made as part of a peer education programme with Castlehaven Community Association
Closed Doors; short film about struggle of unemployed young man trying to find work. Film made as part of employability programmes we deliver in partnership with Westminster Kingsway College (work experience and employability skills training) and Inspire! (mentoring for NEET young people)
Short film about mental health, made as part of a peer education project we run in partnership with Dragon Hall.
Not Alone; music video about crack cocaine, made as part of a peer education project in partnership with WISDM
Community Christmas Dinner; short film about Xmas celebration held in partnership with Bengali Workers Association on Dec 22nd 2014
Emotions Through Dance; interpretative dance video on mental health which shows the emotions and feelings young people go through.
Suicide; Focuses on male suicide and mental health among young people
It’s Not Too Late; music video made as part of a peer education programme, looking at the life of a young carer struggling to cope herself as a result of her parents overusing alcohol.
Sascha has depression; which sees a group of young people explore the issue of depression and the stigma around it.
Camden Unity Cup Festival 2014; One of the largest community football tournaments in London, bringing together hundreds of young people. The festival was organised in partnership with FYA, Coram’s Fields, Camden Council, London Youth, Camden and Regents Park Youth League, KCB, Bengali Workers Association, the Calthorpe Project and One Housing.
Fitzrovia Street Party and Community Dinner; Every summer young people organise a street party and community dinner for local residents, aimed at improving relations between young people and residents who live around the Warren outdoor play area and pitch.
We Use You; music video exploring the link between substance misuse, peer pressure and homelessness.
Watch You Fall; music video made by young people from Dragon Hall, which explores the links between alcohol and violence and how it affects young people.
