Our Youth Led Community Events project gives young people the opportunity to work together to organise and host a large community event, increasing their skills and giving them new experiences.

We support young people in organising and delivering a range of community events across the year as part of a steering group. The Youth Event Managers take the lead on all aspects of project planning, development, and delivery. Through our events we aim to:

  • enhance community cohesion
  • highlight the positive contribution young people can make to the community;
  • provide young people with employability skills.

Young people join a steering group to organise the event over a 12 week programme. Through this project, they take on roles and responsibilities to take leadership over different aspects of the event. On the day, they are joined by more young people who volunteer as stewards and the steering group recruit and manage these volunteers.

By participating in an event steering group, young people gain:

– AQA awards
– New skills and experiences
– Training opportunities
– Support with employability: CV writing, interview skills and practice

Our feedback from young people is that they really enjoy taking part in the events programme and feel the new skills and experiences are really beneficial for their futures in education and employment.

Between 2017 and 2018 52 young people participated in the programme as Youth Event Managers with 124 youth stewards supporting the events and the number of attendees across all the events is estimated to be over 1000.

Below is information and videos on the five community events we hold each year:

Community Planting Day 2018

Our annual Community Planting day is a chance for local business and community members to take part in an outdoor refresh of the resident’s planters and the Warren Play Area together across two days. It is a great start to our Youth Led events programme, with young people organising the event for the community with a BBQ and a chance to learn more about plants in our very urban area.

Summer Festival 2018

Summer Festival (previously known as Warren Picnic) is a great opportunity to bring  the community together as the summer begins. Designed, organised and run by young people, there is often a theme and fun activities for all the family.

Camden Unity Cup Festival 2018
The Camden Unity Cup Festival, established in 1997, is one of London’s largest community football tournaments. It is organised by a steering group of young people from a range of agencies. Young volunteers take responsibility for stewarding, hosting, performances, setting up and more. The Camden Unity Cup was organised in partnership with the following organisations: Coram’s Fields, London Youth, One Housing, King’s Cross-Brunswick Neighbourhood Association and London Sport

Fitzrovia Street Party and Community Dinner 2018

Our annual street party brings together hundreds of local residents for an afternoon of entertainment provided by young people. Young volunteers plan the event, and on the day, take responsibility for hosting, performances, stewarding, serving refreshments, and the clean-up. It’s a rare opportunity for members of the local community, both young people and older residents, to meet and build relationships.

Camden Youth Action Showcase 2018

Our annual film showcase is a chance for our young people to show their work to members of the local community, friends, family and decision makers in a formal event. Films made by our peer education projects from the past year are shown, as well as films of events and guests get to hear from some of the project participants. In addition to the screenings, guests are served a sit down meal by young people volunteering as stewards. Our young people also perform on stage and host the whole event.

Christmas Community Dinner 2018
The Christmas Community Dinner was organised by a steering group of young people for the local community and featured a stage of entertainment, a full roast dinner and bingo!
